CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE IN GREECE - 2007-12-10

On December the 1st, the city of Thessaloniki in Greece hosted its first symposium on climate change in the wine industry. Organized by Wineplus and sponsored by Alpha Estates, the seminar featured the participation of some of the leading experts on climate change and wine such as Dr. Gregory Jones from the University of Souther Oregon and Pancho Campo, President of The Wine Academy of Spain. Other speakers included Angelo Iatridis, owner and winemaker at Alpha Estate; Theodoros Mavrommmatis,from the Department of Meteorology-Climatology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki; Stefanos Koundouras, Laboratory of Viticulture, School of Agriculture, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki; Benjamin Bois, Dr. Ecole nationale d'ingénieurs des travaux agricoles de Bordeaux ; David Furer, journalist. During the symposium, Pancho Campo also made a presentation on the II World Meeting on Climate Change and Wine, to be held in Barcelona on February 15th and 17th. “Greece is producing more quality wines but climate change could represent a serious problem for the industry in the future. This is why we had a good and interesting response from Greek producers to our event”, declared Pancho Campo after his presentation.
